1. Ten Apples Up on Top by: Dr. Seuss www.amazon.com/My-Very-First-Book-Numbers/dp/039924509X/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=my+very+first+book+of+numbers&qid=1569362782&s=gateway&sr=8-3 We just LOVE this book at my house; I have read it at every naptime pretty consistently for a year now. The bright illustrations, and the silly animal characters (tiger, dog, & lion) who are adding apples to their heads make it a fun read. If you want an extension (for older kids) have the kids count or group the apples in each picture; especially because they can skip count by 10s at the end of the book. 2. My Very First Book of Numbers by: Eric Carle www.amazon.com/My-Very-First-Book-Numbers/dp/039924509X/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=my+very+first+book+of+numbers&qid=1569362782&s=gateway&sr=8-3 This book can be very basic (a colorful fruit board book for babes) or a little challenging for older kids. The idea while reading the bottom part of the book (pictures of fruit) is to match it with the black squares & corresponding number at the top of the book. (This book splits in the middle.) 3. Count the Monkeys by:Mac Barnett www.amazon.com/Count-Monkeys-Barnett-Kevin-Cornell/dp/0545641489/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=count+the+monkeys&qid=1569362669&s=gateway&sr=8-1 This clever book (written for a slightly older audience; kids 3-7) leads you to believe you will be counting monkeys. However, you are left counting creatures and humans who have scared off the monkeys until you get up to 10. 4. Curious George Learns to Count from 1 to 100 by: H.A. Rey www.amazon.com/Curious-George-Learns-Count-100/dp/0547138415/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=curious+george+learns+to+count&qid=1569362697&s=gateway&sr=8-1 In this book you actually get to count with everyone's favorite curious monkey; there are different colorful objects to count on every page, with some typical Curious George mischief mixed in. 5. Five Little Monkeys/ Five Hungry Pandas by: Alexis Barad-Cutler www.amazon.com/Five-Hungry-Pandas-Count-Crunch/dp/0545531837/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=five+hungry+pandas&qid=1569362752&s=gateway&sr=8-1 These books tied for 5th because both books count down from 5. There is a song that goes along with "Five Little Monkeys" too. ;) The panda book is in the cut-out style and it counts down (from 5 pandas) who are ready to nap but need to eat first. There are also other objects (butterflies, for instance) that your child can count with you.

1. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!
by: Bill Martin The vibrant colors alone in this book make it a winner for sure, but there's also the clever rhyming as each individual letter climbs up and then falls down the coconut tree. 2. Dr. Seuss' ABC's by: Dr. Seuss Back with some rhyming fun and imaginary beasts and animals, Dr. Seuss goes through each letter in the alphabet with several items that begin with that letter (with the exception of X & Z, which are notably the most difficult letters.) This one has long been a family favorite, & we have the pocket board book version. 3. ABC Lift the Flap by: Usborne Books I certainly love books that are interactive, and this lift-the-flap features pages illustrated beautifully as well as creatively. For example, there are pages with uppercase and lowercase letters. There are pages that focus on a theme (like a toy shop or the county fair.) All letters of the alphabet are represented well in this book. (See link below.) https://a4634.myubam.com/p/6734/lift-the-flap-abc 4. Alphabet Trucks by: Samantha Vamos My son is obsessed with vehicles, so we had to find a vehicle-type book with ABC's. I was astounded that there are actually all kinds of trucks; Vamos also does a trains one that is very cute. 5. Animal ABC by: Marcus Pfister Most kids like animals, so an ABC book about all different kinds of animals is well-liked and very educational as well. There is only one animal featured on each page, but there are small facts shared about the animal that is represented there. This book is also written in rhyme. |
