![]() Well, we are down to 1 week until we move. And yes, I am packing like mad, but I'm also taking breaks. So here are some books I'd like to share with you during one of those breaks-- they are helping my kids cope with moving a little better, & we make time to read several & discuss what moving to Utah will be like & what to expect. We discuss missing friends & why it's okay to be sad or miss them during this process. I think there are a lot of big emotions that play out during a move; I hope this list will help anyone else moving or dealing with a close friend or family member's move. Kids Books About Moving: 1. Evelyn Del Rey is Moving Away by: Meg Medina & Sonia Sanchez (One of those timeless stories about best of friends, whose lives are so connected, they can't seem to remember a time when they weren't doing something together. But then the news comes; Evelyn's family has to move away. www.amazon.com/Evelyn-Del-Rey-Moving-Away-ebook/dp/B08DZDP23L/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2U7STMT8JCR0T&dchild=1&keywords=evelyn+del+rey+is+moving+away&qid=1621974265&sprefix=evelyn+del+rey%2Caps%2C206&sr=8- 2. In a Jar by: Deborah Marcero & Ralph Lister (Llewellyn is a little rabbit collector. One day he meets a friend when he's capturing a sunset from the lake; Evelyn & Llewellyn begin collecting all sorts of things together until they fill an entire room. But then, Evelyn has to move away with her family & it makes Llewellyn very sad; he feels empty inside. But then he decides to collect some things in a jar to send in a package to Evelyn; even better than sending a letter to a penpal!) www.amazon.com/In-a-Jar/dp/B08JNDJ4V5/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=in+a+jar&qid=1621974562&s=books&sr=1-1 3. The Berenstain Bears: Moving Day by: Stan & Jan Berenstain (It's time for Mama & Papa Bear & Brother Bear to move to the tree house; their family is growing! That's where baby sister is later born.) www.amazon.com/Berenstain-Bears-Moving-Day/dp/0394848381/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=berenstain+bears+moving+day&qid=1621991183&s=audible&sr=1-1 4. Life Without Nico by: Andrea Maturna (A little girl learns what it's like to be without her best friend, when he moves away. They write letters to each other, but it's not the same. Then she anxiously awaits Nico's return visit, but then gets nervous-- what if Nico has changed too much?) www.amazon.com/Life-Without-Nico-Andrea-Maturana/dp/1771386118/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=life+without+nico&qid=1622219092&s=audible&sr=1-1 5. The Day You Begin by: Jacqueline Woodson & Rafael Lopez (While this book doesn't necessarily deal with a move, it does discuss how hard transitions can be to new schools & new neighborhoods for some kids; it's beautifully written & illustrated. It shares a message of hope & goodwill for kids who go to a new & unfamiliar environment.) www.amazon.com/Day-You-Begin-Jacqueline-Woodson/dp/0399246533/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1622237674&sr=1-1 6. Goodbye Friend, Hello Friend by: Cori Doerrfeld (Probably my very favorite moving book, because it shows how when one good experience ends, a new one begins. Even though it is sad to lose friends & family to a move, we can make new friends & find new opportunities, & not just dwell on sadness.) www.amazon.com/Goodbye-Friend-Hello-Cori-Doerrfeld/dp/0525554238/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1622048207&sr=8-1 7. Moving Away Will be Okay by: Kellie Carte-Sears & Anahit Aleksanyan (When she learns she is moving, Massy becomes consumed with emotions and filled with questions about the whole process. As adults read this with children, they will learn to provide a sense of security during challenges & provide emotional support; because moving with young children can be exciting, scary & confusing.) www.amazon.com/Moving-Away-Will-Moments-Massy/dp/1792335415/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=moving+away+will+be+okay&qid=1622133045&sr=8-3 9. A New Kind of Wild by: Zara Gonalez Hoang (Moving from the jungle to the city is a big change for Ren. He meets a little girl named Ava who tries to show him the magic of the city life, but Ren can't see it; he misses the jungle. I love how it shows him pining away for his old home, because those are very normal emotions for children to feel. But eventually, Ren comes to see the adventures & colors in the city from the rooftops & he decides it's not so bad after all.) www.amazon.com/Kind-Wild-Zara-Gonzalez-Hoang/dp/0525553894/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=a+new+kind+of+wild&qid=1622216104&s=books&sr=1-1 11. Summer Vacation Picture Books: 1.The Bears' Vacation by: Jan Berenstain (As usual, Papa Bear thinks he's taking his son out to teach him some lessons at the beach, but instead of safety first, Papa Bear highlights all the dangers of vacation at the ocean. What Should Danny Do? On Vacation by: Adir Levy & Mat Sadler (Danny is about to learn more about his power to choose, but this time on vacation! This follow-up book to What Should Danny Do? is filled with empathy, sharing & lessons in personal responsibility. There are 9 different endings your child can choose from, to help Danny through his day on vacation.) www.amazon.com/Should-Danny-Vacation-Power-Choose/dp/1733094687/ref=sr_1_1?crid=34OU907Y6E0KE&dchild=1&keywords=what+should+danny+do+on+vacation&qid=1621471688&sprefix=what+should+danny+do+on+va%2Caudible%2C219&sr=8-1 3. A fun side note is that the endpapers for this book are both from the summer section; playing basketball & swinging on a rope over the lake.) www.amazon.com/Come-Next-Season-Kim-Norman/dp/0374305986/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=come+next+season&qid=1621575525&sr=8-1 11.
