My next book, about a girl who writes letters to her teacher in a school journal in elementary school, is being sent off for editing! It's been developing for a year now, but it's finally ready for some cleaning & editing before I start sending it to the publishing companies.
I'll keep you in the loop, but I'm excited for this one!!! It has been in the works for well over a year now, but my children's book, about a little girl who spends the entire day in pajamas, is published. (For more details on the book, or if you'd like to be on my promotions team, email me or feel free to message me.)
Below you will see the image we hope to use on the cover. This little girl, Sophie, has been forming & changing for a year. My biggest focus has been on how I could make Sophie seem like a self-confident, imaginative little girl who decides to do something unique & not let how others react bother her. I think it teaches an important lesson in emotional health & well-being, and the world could always use more children's books about social & emotional health, as well as noteworthy character traits. You will undeniably fall in love with Sophie, as she decides to spend not just the morning, but the entire day in her pajamas....& nothing can stop her! A great lesson in self-esteem for young kiddos as you read this one. If you have subscribed to my blog & podcast, For the Love of Literacy, then you should already have received a complimentary copy of my book, Reading Tips for Parents. It's a compilation of my Reading Tips with kids (as seen here on the blog) with some book lists & pictures too!
My son used to LOVE the movie Cars, so I customized an ABC book with all the Cars characters. We still carry it around in the car for fun sometimes, but it has always been so special to him (even though it's just in protective sleeves.) I googled the images of course, since I'm not artistically talented, but since I'm not reproducing it for the masses, I don't think there are copyright issues.
What does your child love that you could create a book or family story about? You can be imaginative or very basic & I'm sure your child will love it just the same. When my son was graduating from babyhood to toddlerhood (somewhere between his first and second birthday) I did a lot of research on the topic of sleep and routines with young kids. My son has actually never been a great sleeper, BUT this bedtime book put his mind at ease and even became something he looked forward to and requested each night when it was time to go to bed.
Using software I downloaded on blurb.com, I created a simple hardcover book for my son Jackson, following the general idea and concept of Goodnight Moon. 15 pages of what things Jackson liked to do and play with during the day (i.e. the park, dogs, airplanes, balloons, food, Mommy & Daddy, his grandparents, etc.) He really seemed to love having a book that was about him & it was filled with familiar things that made him happy. I will post a few pictures here from that project, but I hope this idea can inspire parents who have difficulty getting their babes to sleep, or maybe just wanting to create a routine where reading is involved at the end of the day. You can also just check out https://www.blurb.com/ for any self-publishing endeavors you may currently be undertaking; it's a great resource! |
